My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Emma to prepare for the birth of our first baby. Emma’s classes were both informative and relaxing and we both feel so prepared for a peaceful, natural birth at home, thanks to our HyponoBirthing practice. If you’re interested in HypnoBirthing, I would highly recommend working with Emma.
Emily, Berkhamsted
I couldn’t thank Emma enough for teaching me and my husband the art of Hypnobirthing. Even though I ended up being induced I still used the the Hypnobirthing method and had an incredible natural birth. I couldn’t recommend Emma enough, thank you!
Louise, Tring
Emma has a warm and intuitive teaching style. She guided me through my pregnancy and helped me overcome my birthing fears and have the most empowering and rewarding birthing experience. I actually enjoyed it. For that I am hugely thankful.
Sarah, Berkhamsted
The environment was positive and welcoming. The hypnobirthing course was informative, educational and provided us with the tools to have at the birth. I feel more knowledgeable and confident and my partner is now more involved in the process. We feel excited for the birth
Clare, Watford
I just want to say a massive thank you, the hypnobirthing skills you taught us on the course were invaluable during the birth. It gave us so much confidence, the whole experience was calm, anxiety free and positive.
Jessica, Leighton Buzzard
The course was really informative and I learnt so much about birth that I never knew. It was lovely to discuss concerns and other ideas for birth with other couples. I feel a lot calmer and positive about giving birth and more confident that I can handle whatever happens during our birthing experience. I have enjoyed the relaxations so much. I am glad I have plenty of them to listen to before our birthing day.
Amelia, Leighton Buzzard
I did not have any type of pain relief at all and the sensations I had were completely bearable. Iain was also really great, he stayed in control and calm, did the soft touch massage and was generally very soothing. I put my amazing birth experience down to the hypnobirthing lessons and doing the relaxations and birthing affirmations (almost) daily, so thank you for teaching Iain and I the skills we needed to make that happen.
Penny, Rickmansworth
Just to say many thanks. Had it not been for hypnobirthing, I would have not survived! Our baby Eden was born 23rd December and using the hypnobirthing tools saved me! I got to full dilation within 3 hours of the first sign of labour and the breathing literally took the pain away like an anaesthetic would, I was surprised how powerful it was. I cannot emphasise enough the empowerment, confidence, vital knowledge and coping tools that I gained from hypnobirthing. I rarely recommend courses but this is a must for every woman. To be candid I would advise this course is taught to every mother-to-be as standard, simply to equip women with the physical, emotional/mental skills & techniques required to undergo the powerful experience of childbirth; and to access the inner strength required for such a feat!

With the confidence and skills that hypnobirthing gives you, home births tend to be more popular for hypnobirthing couples, choosing the familiarity, private and peaceful environment that home births can offer. Alternatively, many couples opt for birth centre births (which are usually in the hospital) which are midwife-led and cater for natural birth. For some, the labour ward is necessary for medical reasons but is still a good environment for hypnobirthing. In Warrington, the Warrington Hospital is conveniently located in the city centre. For in-depth information about what Hypnobirthing is and the ways in which it can benefit you, check out our ‘What is Hypnobirthing’ page.
According to the Hypnobirthing Institute, around 65%-70% of hypnobirthing mothers don’t require pain-relieving drugs. Exactly 69% of the women I have personally taught did not require any medication at all. A further 20%-25% only typically require mild forms of pain relief such as gas and air. The last 5%-10% fall under the case of ‘special circumstances’ where medical intervention is necessary. Even in these cases, mums who’ve taken my course have expressed their gratitude for my stress-relieving hypnobirthing techniques. In fact, you can read all about their individual stories on my blog.
Epidurals are known for their pain relief but they also tend to complicate things. Mothers have expressed discomfort and difficulty while moving around after an epidural. Moreover, they’ve also mentioned an increased inability to change birthing positions, which is particularly necessary if the baby is in a difficult position for birth. To add, studies have shown that an epidural adds to the normal birthing time and increases the probability of unwanted intervention measures. Even though it cannot be helped at times, mothers should be aware that any medications the mother’s body ingests will have an effect on the baby as well.
My tried and tested hypnobirthing procedures can provide you with the best chances of a drug-free delivery. A natural birth is far more beneficial for both the mum and the baby. Hypnobirthing will teach you valuable calming techniques that will even help make special circumstances easier to cope with.
You should join our online 4-week hypnobirthing classes somewhere between your 20th and 30th pregnancy week. If you’re over 30 weeks then I still encourage you to join, right up to 38 weeks in time before your estimated due date.
The more you practise, the more effective the hypnobirthing techniques will be. Self-hypnosis requires practice time to get it right. So, we advise you to make good use of your time between classes and leading up to your birthing day to practise on your own or with your birth partner. If you have any questions, I’m available on the phone or via email.
First-time mums can look to hypnobirthing as a means to get rid of all the fear associated with giving birth. It can help them relax and look forward to their pregnancy days instead of just wanting to get it over with. Second-time mums might also turn to hypnobirthing for an alternative approach to giving birth, one that would leave a little more room for relaxation. In particular, mums who’ve given birth through C-section tend to turn to hypnobirthing techniques and methods to help them give birth vaginally.
Self-hypnosis is an acquired skill that you have to practise by yourself aside from your regular online classes. It is important to establish that it’s not something weird like putting you in a trance – you’ll be fully aware of your surroundings. You’ll just enter into a state of relaxation. Moreover, it should be noted that my online hypnobirthing course involves so much more than merely self-hypnosis; it gives you a whole new approach to pregnancy and childbirth. The relaxation techniques will not only benefit you in your delivery, but they will also stay with you and help during stressful moments in life.
In any case, hypnobirthing is highly beneficial for not just you but your baby as well. Allowing yourself to relax and remain calm while delivering your baby passes on the same sensations to the womb. Your body releases endorphins in a relaxed state. These have been found in the placenta and the umbilical cord and could prove to help make the delivery easy and allow the baby to adjust to life outside the womb. According to current research, babies who are born naturally are more alert and quickly develop an interest in breastfeeding behaviours.
