My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Emma to prepare for the birth of our first baby. Emma’s classes were both informative and relaxing and we both feel so prepared for a peaceful, natural birth at home, thanks to our HyponoBirthing practice. If you’re interested in HypnoBirthing, I would highly recommend working with Emma.
Emily, Berkhamsted
I couldn’t thank Emma enough for teaching me and my husband the art of Hypnobirthing. Even though I ended up being induced I still used the the Hypnobirthing method and had an incredible natural birth. I couldn’t recommend Emma enough, thank you!

Emma has a warm and intuitive teaching style. She guided me through my pregnancy and helped me overcome my birthing fears and have the most empowering and rewarding birthing experience. I actually enjoyed it. For that I am hugely thankful.
Sarah, Berkhamsted
The environment was positive and welcoming. The hypnobirthing course was informative, educational and provided us with the tools to have at the birth. I feel more knowledgeable and confident and my partner is now more involved in the process. We feel excited for the birth

I just want to say a massive thank you, the hypnobirthing skills you taught us on the course were invaluable during the birth. It gave us so much confidence, the whole experience was calm, anxiety free and positive.
Jessica, Leighton Buzzard
The course was really informative and I learnt so much about birth that I never knew. It was lovely to discuss concerns and other ideas for birth with other couples. I feel a lot calmer and positive about giving birth and more confident that I can handle whatever happens during our birthing experience. I have enjoyed the relaxations so much. I am glad I have plenty of them to listen to before our birthing day.
Amelia, Leighton Buzzard
I did not have any type of pain relief at all and the sensations I had were completely bearable. Iain was also really great, he stayed in control and calm, did the soft touch massage and was generally very soothing. I put my amazing birth experience down to the hypnobirthing lessons and doing the relaxations and birthing affirmations (almost) daily, so thank you for teaching Iain and I the skills we needed to make that happen.
Penny, Rickmansworth
Just to say many thanks. Had it not been for hypnobirthing, I would have not survived! Our baby Eden was born 23rd December and using the hypnobirthing tools saved me! I got to full dilation within 3 hours of the first sign of labour and the breathing literally took the pain away like an anaesthetic would, I was surprised how powerful it was. I cannot emphasise enough the empowerment, confidence, vital knowledge and coping tools that I gained from hypnobirthing. I rarely recommend courses but this is a must for every woman. To be candid I would advise this course is taught to every mother-to-be as standard, simply to equip women with the physical, emotional/mental skills & techniques required to undergo the powerful experience of childbirth; and to access the inner strength required for such a feat!

The nine months of pregnancy is a very special time for mums-to-be. It is a time of great physiological and emotional change. Unfortunately some changes mean the discomfort of backache, aching hips, sciatica, cramp, insomnia and swelling to name but a few. This is where massage can be of great comfort and alleviate some of the more uncomfortable effects of pregnancy.
Reflexology involves a method of treatment using massage to reflex areas on the hands and feet, most commonly the feet. These areas correspond to different parts of the body. A reflexologist will treat the whole body by applying a firm pressure to different points on the feet, mainly using the thumb. Reflexology can be effective for inducing labour.
Traditional eastern acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into the skin to stimulate certain acupuncture points. There are more than 300 of these points on the body and the insertion is shallow and should not be painful (no greater than plucking hair from your skin). Acupuncture can also be effective at inducing labour.

Osteopathy is a safe hands-on manual therapy for both the diagnosis and treatment of many conditions which cause pain or discomfort. It uses many of the same diagnostic methods as conventional medicine to establish the cause of physical symptoms. It is grounded in science, research and anatomical knowledge but takes a ‘whole person’ approach.

Read all about the process of Hypnobirthing and the numerous ways it benefits you on our ‘What is Hypnobirthing’ page.
Hypnobirthing is an acquired skill so it’s most successful with practice. Pain free labour is possible with hypnobirthing. As a guide, the Hypnobirthing Institute found that 20%-25% of hypnobirthing mums require mild forms of relief, like gas and air, while 5%-10% need medical intervention. Others (65-70%) don’t require any relief at all. In fact, you can read about my hypnobirthing mums’ individual birth experiences on my blog.
Research shows that epidurals can increase birthing time and heighten the chances of external intervention procedures such as vacuum extraction or forceps. Drug-free births usually result in quick recovery times and enable freer movement during labour and birth which is beneficial. In addition to this, drugs are not passed on to your baby with a natural birth.
The best time to begin this course is between your 20th and 30th weeks of pregnancy. If you’re over 30 weeks, you should still get in touch, especially if you are up to 36 weeks, as I should be able to fit a course in for you.
Yes, since hypnobirthing is an acquired skill, the more you practise, the more effective the techniques will be. My 4-week course gives you and your birth partner enough time to perfect your hypnobirthing techniques.
Hypnobirthing is ideal for anyone who wishes to approach this journey more confidently. If this is your first birthing experience, hypnobirthing will help you dispel your nerves. If you’ve given birth before, hypnobirthing could benefit you in terms of experiencing a more relaxing positive birth, including a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean).
Hypnobirthing is an acquired skill and nothing more than allowing yourself to enter a state of deep relaxation. It is simple to learn and anyone can do it. The more you practise, however, the better your chances are of having a calm, drug-free experience.
Yes, because hypnobirthing helps the body relax. When you’re in a calm state, your body releases endorphins. These are the body’s natural relaxants that are also found in the umbilical cord and the placenta. So, your baby feels the same calming sensations as you during hypnobirthing.
You’ll need a minimum upload speed of 2Mbps. You can test it here.
The best way to take a hypnobirthing course is online with an instructor. You have a better opportunity to ask questions and learn the techniques.
