Introduction

Welcome to Together Birthing and congratulations on your pregnancy! I’m Emma, a hypnobirthing mum and hypnobirthing practitioner with a great passion for what I teach!

My hypnobirthing courses for parents-to-be in Leeds, consist of 4 x 2 hour weekly online classes and include 9 relaxation downloads and a course companion book. I trained with the Hypnobirthing Institute in 2014 and with the Hypnobirthing Training Academy by Jenny Mullan, in 2016.

The weekly online interactive classes are a complete childbirth education programme for expectant couples.

As a result of my personal hypnobirthing experience, with the birth of my second son, I know first-hand the importance of hypnobirthing in labour and birth. I love to share the wonders of hypnobirthing with expectant mothers, to help them also experience an easier and calmer birth.

    FAQs

All the information about Hypnobirthing, how it can help you, and how it works is on our ‘What is Hypnobirthing’ page.

Hypnobirthing is an acquired skill, meaning that its success depends on the amount of practice you put in during and after the course. According to the Hypnobirthing Institute, around 65-70% of hypnobirthing mums do not need any form of pain relief. Some 69% of my own students over a 2 year period did not need any form of pain relief during labour. The Institute also confirmed that 20-25% required something mild like gas and air, whilst 5-10% experienced ‘special circumstances’, and required medical intervention. My students who experienced special circumstances disclosed that hypnobirthing still really helped them. You can read more about individual birth-story experiences on my blog.

Mothers who birth without any drugs are more able to move about freely than those who give birth with an epidural. Mothers can give birth faster and easier as they feel more connected with their bodies. On the contrary, the use of epidurals can prolong labour time and increase the chances of other medical interventions like forceps or vacuum extraction. Parents should note that any drugs ingested by the mother also affect the baby. Hypnobirthing increases the possibility of a drug-free birth and reduces the need for pain relief.

It is advisable to start the course between the 20th and 30th week of pregnancy. For those later than 30 weeks, we can still fit the course in for you up to 36 weeks.

Absolutely! Self-hypnosis is an acquired skill that is most effective when learned with enough practice time between your weekly classes.

Hypnobirthing is for those that want to be fully prepared for birth. They could be first-time mums without experience, mothers on their second or subsequent pregnancies who want an alternative experience or mothers who want to have a vaginal birth after Caesarean (VBAC)  Hypnobirthing techniques are useful for home births and hospital or birth-centre births.

Self-hypnosis can work for you or any other person interested in learning the skills and techniques. It is simply about being in a state of relaxation to help you stay calm and in control. You will be fully aware of the happenings around you and able to communicate with others if necessary. Self-hypnosis can be learned easily and improved throughout the duration of your course.

Hypnobirthing is also very good for your baby as much as it is for you. Whenever you are calm and relaxed, your baby will feel similar sensations. The endorphins are your body’s natural relaxant and are released when the body is in a calm state during labour. The same endorphins are also found in the placenta and umbilical cord, which helps the baby adapt to life outside the womb. It also helps your baby remain calm, alert and active.

A minimum upload speed of 2Mbps is ideal for a live online class. You can run a test on your computer to check your upload speed with this tool http://www.speedtest.net.

The best way to take a hypnobirthing course is online with an instructor. You have a better opportunity to ask questions and learn the techniques.
