My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Emma to prepare for the birth of our first baby. Emma’s classes were both informative and relaxing and we both feel so prepared for a peaceful, natural birth at home, thanks to our HyponoBirthing practice. If you’re interested in HypnoBirthing, I would highly recommend working with Emma.
Emily, Berkhamsted
I couldn’t thank Emma enough for teaching me and my husband the art of Hypnobirthing. Even though I ended up being induced I still used the the Hypnobirthing method and had an incredible natural birth. I couldn’t recommend Emma enough, thank you!
Louise, Tring
Emma has a warm and intuitive teaching style. She guided me through my pregnancy and helped me overcome my birthing fears and have the most empowering and rewarding birthing experience. I actually enjoyed it. For that I am hugely thankful.
Sarah, Berkhamsted
The environment was positive and welcoming. The hypnobirthing course was informative, educational and provided us with the tools to have at the birth. I feel more knowledgeable and confident and my partner is now more involved in the process. We feel excited for the birth

I just want to say a massive thank you, the hypnobirthing skills you taught us on the course were invaluable during the birth. It gave us so much confidence, the whole experience was calm, anxiety free and positive.
Jessica, Leighton Buzzard
The course was really informative and I learnt so much about birth that I never knew. It was lovely to discuss concerns and other ideas for birth with other couples. I feel a lot calmer and positive about giving birth and more confident that I can handle whatever happens during our birthing experience. I have enjoyed the relaxations so much. I am glad I have plenty of them to listen to before our birthing day.
Amelia, Leighton Buzzard
I did not have any type of pain relief at all and the sensations I had were completely bearable. Iain was also really great, he stayed in control and calm, did the soft touch massage and was generally very soothing. I put my amazing birth experience down to the hypnobirthing lessons and doing the relaxations and birthing affirmations (almost) daily, so thank you for teaching Iain and I the skills we needed to make that happen.
Penny, Rickmansworth
Just to say many thanks. Had it not been for hypnobirthing, I would have not survived! Our baby Eden was born 23rd December and using the hypnobirthing tools saved me! I got to full dilation within 3 hours of the first sign of labour and the breathing literally took the pain away like an anaesthetic would, I was surprised how powerful it was. I cannot emphasise enough the empowerment, confidence, vital knowledge and coping tools that I gained from hypnobirthing. I rarely recommend courses but this is a must for every woman. To be candid I would advise this course is taught to every mother-to-be as standard, simply to equip women with the physical, emotional/mental skills & techniques required to undergo the powerful experience of childbirth; and to access the inner strength required for such a feat!

Hypnobirthing can give partners the confidence and skills if they decide to have a home birth, which has many benefits such as privacy and the comfort of the home environment. For medical reasons, or personal preferences, if you’d prefer to go to a hospital, you can travel to Watford General Hospital where there is a midwifery-led birthing centre attached to the hospital, located in the town centre with plenty of adjacent parking space. You can book a tour of the maternity unit before the big day, giving you an idea of what to expect in advance. The centre caters for natural births as well as offering high quality water birthing facilities, making it the perfect choice for expectant parents that are hoping to use hypnobirthing techniques during a drug-free birth. If you click on the hospital link below you can find out more about the hospital’s maternity services and book a tour:

As well as having a calming influence on the body, pregnancy yoga can soothe your baby and create a relaxing environment for him or her to grow in. Yoga can also help with breathing exercises, morning sickness and your general well-being.
Shweta Panchal, Minded Yoga
We all love a good massage and your body can really benefit from the pressure and relaxation during pregnancy. As well as soothing aches and pains, massage can stimulate your blood flow and calm any anxieties or stresses in your mind. Babies can also benefit from gentle massage.
Reflexology concentrates on the hands and feet as ways to relieve aches and pains in the body. Many women suffer from discomfort during pregnancy, especially in the back or pelvis. Experienced reflexologists use pressure points to focus on these areas. Reflexology can also help with swelling and nausea.
Vicky Kellett, Soul Composure
Focusing on the joints, bones and muscle tissue, osteopathy is fantastic if you suffer from back pain, knee pain or neck problems. It can also help with any pelvic discomfort you have. Cranial osteopathy is really good for realigning your baby after their journey during birth.
Elizabeth Huzzey, The Osteopathic Practice
Using ancient natural remedies, homeopathy is a form of medicinal treatment that can help with everything from nausea and morning sickness to depression and pain management. Although your GP should be the first person you talk to about any medical worries, homeopathic healers can work very well alongside your medical professionals especially if there are certain medicines that you are restricted from taking during pregnancy. Homeopathic kits can also be used during labour as an alternative to traditional pain relief.
Margaret Haynes, Margaret Haynes Homeopathy
Doulas are very supportive both emotionally and physically. From being there as a birthing partner to giving you advice and helping with any problems, doula women are there to support you throughout your labour and birth.
Dawn Powell, Birth Blessings
Gwendoline, Birth Doula
Nutritional therapy can be extremely useful to pregnant women who are facing problems with food or sickness. A nutritional analysis can provide information about deficiencies as well as giving you knowledge about what you and your baby need. Nausea, baby blues and cravings can all be treated with nutritional therapy.

The success of hypnobirthing relies on the amount of practice you put in during the course. Around two-thirds of women that I personally taught over a 2 year period did not need any form of pain relief. According to the Hypnobirthing Institute, 20%-25% of hypnobirthing mums require mild pain relief such as gas and air, whereas 5%-10% need it as the last option. You can check our individual birth stories of hypnobirthing mums on my blog.
Natural birth can rid you of a lot of complications. Research shows that epidurals can prolong the birthing time and heighten the chances of having forceps or vacuum extraction. Through hypnobirthing, you have the best chances of undergoing a drug-free birth by substantially alleviating the need for pain relief. This way is better for the baby as the drugs you ingest can affect your baby.
Ideally you should start between your 20th week of pregnancy and your 30th week. It is fine if you are later than this so please do get in touch. I have taught plenty of couples who were 36 weeks.
Yes, absolutely. Self-hypnosis is an acquired skill so it’s only as good as you make it. You can utilize the time between successive classes of my 4-week hypnobirthing Hertfordshire course to practise by yourself.
Hypnobirthing has something to offer anyone who wishes to feel more prepared and confident about birth. If you’re a first-time mum, it’ll be good for your nerves. If you’ve had children before, it’ll provide you with an alternative approach. For example, helping you deliver vaginally for the first time.
Firstly, there is nothing more to hypnosis than entering a state of relaxation. It’s very easy to do. Secondly, it’s an acquired skill that you can learn and improve through practice.
Yes, it’s beneficial for both mum and baby. Your body releases endorphins when you’re relaxed. The same can be located in the placenta and the umbilical cord. So, your calming sensations, which are the result of hypnobirthing techniques, are what the baby feels as well.
An upload speed of 2Mbps is the minimum requirement. You can test it here: http://www.speedtest.net.
The best way to take a hypnobirthing course is online with an instructor. You have a better opportunity to ask questions and learn the techniques.
No matter where you are located, as long as you have a good internet connection, you take one of our classes in the comfort of your own home.
