Harpenden is a wonderful place for bringing up children. It has a lot of local services, amenities, and young families you can connect with.
My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Emma to prepare for the birth of our first baby. Emma’s classes were both informative and relaxing and we both feel so prepared for a peaceful, natural birth at home, thanks to our HyponoBirthing practice. If you’re interested in HypnoBirthing, I would highly recommend working with Emma.
Emily, Berkhamsted
I couldn’t thank Emma enough for teaching me and my husband the art of Hypnobirthing. Even though I ended up being induced I still used the the Hypnobirthing method and had an incredible natural birth. I couldn’t recommend Emma enough, thank you!

Emma has a warm and intuitive teaching style. She guided me through my pregnancy and helped me overcome my birthing fears and have the most empowering and rewarding birthing experience. I actually enjoyed it. For that I am hugely thankful.
Sarah, Berkhamsted
The environment was positive and welcoming. The hypnobirthing course was informative, educational and provided us with the tools to have at the birth. I feel more knowledgeable and confident and my partner is now more involved in the process. We feel excited for the birth

I just want to say a massive thank you, the hypnobirthing skills you taught us on the course were invaluable during the birth. It gave us so much confidence, the whole experience was calm, anxiety free and positive.
Jessica, Leighton Buzzard
The course was really informative and I learnt so much about birth that I never knew. It was lovely to discuss concerns and other ideas for birth with other couples. I feel a lot calmer and positive about giving birth and more confident that I can handle whatever happens during our birthing experience. I have enjoyed the relaxations so much. I am glad I have plenty of them to listen to before our birthing day.
Amelia, Leighton Buzzard
I did not have any type of pain relief at all and the sensations I had were completely bearable. Iain was also really great, he stayed in control and calm, did the soft touch massage and was generally very soothing. I put my amazing birth experience down to the hypnobirthing lessons and doing the relaxations and birthing affirmations (almost) daily, so thank you for teaching Iain and I the skills we needed to make that happen.
Penny, Rickmansworth
Just to say many thanks. Had it not been for hypnobirthing, I would have not survived! Our baby Eden was born 23rd December and using the hypnobirthing tools saved me! I got to full dilation within 3 hours of the first sign of labour and the breathing literally took the pain away like an anaesthetic would, I was surprised how powerful it was. I cannot emphasise enough the empowerment, confidence, vital knowledge and coping tools that I gained from hypnobirthing. I rarely recommend courses but this is a must for every woman. To be candid I would advise this course is taught to every mother-to-be as standard, simply to equip women with the physical, emotional/mental skills & techniques required to undergo the powerful experience of childbirth; and to access the inner strength required for such a feat!

Some women choose to have their babies at home preferring the comfort and familiarity of their home environment. Alternatively, some may prefer to birth their baby in a birth centre. Luton & Dunstable hospital, which is located just 15 minutes’ drive away from Harpenden, offers a midwifery-led birth centre, located alongside the labour ward so that obstetric medical care is close at hand if intervention is required. The birth centre has a ‘home from home’ feel to it, with less medical equipment around and an emphasis on natural birth. Sometimes you may be required to have birth on the labour ward due to your circumstances. A birth pool is usually available on the labour ward and the birth centre at the Luton & Dunstable hospital. Speak to your midwife for more information or book a tour.

Pilates is a low impact exercise which is designed to help with improving core strength, maintaining healthy joints, lengthening muscles and improving posture to help with back pain and painful joints.
Throughout pregnancy, reflexology can help with unpleasant conditions such as backache, headaches, nausea and insomnia without the need for medication, which would be best avoided. Some small trials carried out in Sweden seem to indicate shorter, less painful and ‘on time’ labours following a course of reflexology treatments.

To learn more about hypnobirthing, check out my ‘What is Hypnobirthing’ page.
Hypnobirthing is an acquired skill which means its success depends, to a certain extent, on your level of practice. A pain-free labour is possible with hypnobirthing. As a guide, the Hypnobirthing Institute found that 20%-25% of hypnobirthing mums need just gas and air, while 5%-10% experience ‘special circumstances’, where medical intervention is needed. Other hypnobirthing mums (65-70%) do not need any form of pain relief. You can read some birth stories on my blog.
According to research, an epidural usually increases the chances of further interventions and prevents mums from moving freely around. Mums after natural births normally recover faster after childbirth. It should also be noted that drugs ingested by the mother can be passed on to the baby.
It is best if you start with us between your 20th and 30th pregnancy week. For those later than 30 weeks, please do still get in touch as we should still be able to fit you in, especially if you are 36 weeks or less.
Definitely. Self-hypnosis is more effective when you practise at home. My 4-week hypnobirthing course offers you enough time to do so between classes.
Hypnobirthing is beneficial to anyone wanting to feel more prepared and confident about birth; whether you are a mum experiencing childbirth for the first time or a mother on a subsequent pregnancy looking forward to a more positive hypnobirthing experience. Mums who had a C-section before can also learn how to give birth vaginally.
Hypnosis is just a process of entering a state of relaxation. As a learned skill, self-hypnosis can be improved throughout the duration of the 4-week course. It is simple to learn and can work for anyone.
Hypnobirthing is definitely good for your baby. Just as it helps keep you calm, it has the same effect on your baby as well. Your body releases some natural relaxants called endorphins when you are in a calm state. These relaxants are also found in the placenta and umbilical cord which means your baby can also stay calm while in your womb.
Yes, you do. A minimum of 2Mbps upload speed is needed. You can use this tool to test: http://www.speedtest.net.
Although it might be cheaper, it is not as effective as an interactive course. In my classes, you get to learn all the crucial techniques to help you have a successful birthing experience.
No matter where you are located, as long as you have a good internet connection, you take one of our classes in the comfort of your own home.
