My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Emma to prepare for the birth of our first baby. Emma’s classes were both informative and relaxing and we both feel so prepared for a peaceful, natural birth at home, thanks to our HyponoBirthing practice. If you’re interested in HypnoBirthing, I would highly recommend working with Emma.
Emily, Berkhamsted
I couldn’t thank Emma enough for teaching me and my husband the art of Hypnobirthing. Even though I ended up being induced I still used the the Hypnobirthing method and had an incredible natural birth. I couldn’t recommend Emma enough, thank you!

Emma has a warm and intuitive teaching style. She guided me through my pregnancy and helped me overcome my birthing fears and have the most empowering and rewarding birthing experience. I actually enjoyed it. For that I am hugely thankful.
Sarah, Berkhamsted
The environment was positive and welcoming. The hypnobirthing course was informative, educational and provided us with the tools to have at the birth. I feel more knowledgeable and confident and my partner is now more involved in the process. We feel excited for the birth

I just want to say a massive thank you, the hypnobirthing skills you taught us on the course were invaluable during the birth. It gave us so much confidence, the whole experience was calm, anxiety free and positive.
Jessica, Leighton Buzzard
The course was really informative and I learnt so much about birth that I never knew. It was lovely to discuss concerns and other ideas for birth with other couples. I feel a lot calmer and positive about giving birth and more confident that I can handle whatever happens during our birthing experience. I have enjoyed the relaxations so much. I am glad I have plenty of them to listen to before our birthing day.
Amelia, Leighton Buzzard
I did not have any type of pain relief at all and the sensations I had were completely bearable. Iain was also really great, he stayed in control and calm, did the soft touch massage and was generally very soothing. I put my amazing birth experience down to the hypnobirthing lessons and doing the relaxations and birthing affirmations (almost) daily, so thank you for teaching Iain and I the skills we needed to make that happen.
Penny, Rickmansworth
Just to say many thanks. Had it not been for hypnobirthing, I would have not survived! Our baby Eden was born 23rd December and using the hypnobirthing tools saved me! I got to full dilation within 3 hours of the first sign of labour and the breathing literally took the pain away like an anaesthetic would, I was surprised how powerful it was. I cannot emphasise enough the empowerment, confidence, vital knowledge and coping tools that I gained from hypnobirthing. I rarely recommend courses but this is a must for every woman. To be candid I would advise this course is taught to every mother-to-be as standard, simply to equip women with the physical, emotional/mental skills & techniques required to undergo the powerful experience of childbirth; and to access the inner strength required for such a feat!

If you are living in Cheltenham, you might choose to give birth at home, to be in your own familiar surroundings and not have to travel to the hospital. You can also hire birth pools for home births if you want to have a water birth. Alternatively, you might be planning to have a hospital birth at Cheltenham General Hospital, which is conveniently located in Cheltenham and offers a birth centre environment as well as a labour ward. The birth centre is entirely run by midwives for women who are considered low risk. The environment is less medical than the labour ward and has a ‘home from home’ feel to it, with an emphasis on natural birth. Speak to your midwife for more information or book a tour.

Using pressure points on your feet and hands, reflexology targets other parts of your body that are suffering from pain. It can help with discomforts in your pelvis and back, as well as with digestive issues and swelling. If your baby needs reposition or you would like to help induce labour naturally, reflexology can also help.

Osteopathy can combat a wide range of conditions affecting pregnant women. These include back, neck and pelvic pain, as well as any swellings. The changes happening in your body can cause you to feel tired, short of breath or unable to sleep. Osteopathy can also help treat these issues by focusing on your bone structure, joints and muscles.
Acupuncture is a safe and effective way of treating your body during pregnancy. With the use of thin needles, acupuncture can heal many symptoms including stress, depression, morning sickness, back pain and any other aches or discomforts. It’s important to feel comfortable about the acupuncture process before taking part so speak to your therapist and ask any questions before beginning treatment.

Read more about Hypnobirthing, how it helps, and how it works on our ‘What is Hypnobirthing’ page.
Hypnobirthing is an acquired skill, the success of which depends on how much practice is done during the course. The Hypnobirthing Institute found that 65%-70% of hypnobirthing mums didn’t need any pain relief, while 69% of those I taught, over a 2 year period, didn’t need pain relief. The Institute also found that 20%-25% only require mild assistance, such as gas and air, while the remaining 5%-10% usually experience ‘special circumstances’, and needed medical intervention. My hypnobirthing students who experienced special circumstances confirmed that hypnobirthing still really helped, even when they needed inducement or caesarean. You can read about individual birth-story experiences on my blog. Hypnobirthing helps you gain adequate information, control, and a more positive birthing experience, no matter what the birthing situation.
People who birth without an epidural can easily walk and change positions easily throughout labour, go for a walk or easily to the bathroom. They normally birth better and faster as they are still connected with their bodies. The use of epidurals usually prolongs labour time and increases the chances of further interventions. Using medications are sometimes necessary but it should be noted that drugs ingested by mothers can affect babies in the womb.
It is advisable to start between the 20th and 30th week of pregnancy. If you are later than 30 weeks, do still get in touch and I will do my best to fit in a course for you. I have taught many couples from 36 weeks!
Most definitely! Self-hypnosis and deep relaxation are most effective when learnt with regular practice time between weekly classes. The 4-week course enables you and your birth partner to feel prepared, relaxed and positive as you await your birthing day.
Hypnobirthing is for first-time mums, mothers on subsequent births, or those who wish to experience vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC). Basically, hypnobirthing is for mothers who want to feel more prepared and confident about a vaginal birth. Hypnobirthing techniques are beneficial for home, hospital or birth centre births.
Hypnobirthing works for everyone who is willing to attempt and practice regularly. Basically, hypnobirthing is about entering a state of relaxation during birth, while you are fully aware of your surroundings, and communicate effectively. Self-hypnosis is easy to learn and can be improved upon throughout the course. The hypnobirthing course involves much more than just learning self-hypnosis. It is actually an entire philosophy, ideology, and approach to pregnancy and childbirth. The techniques also helps people relax after childbirth.
Hypnobirthing is very beneficial for your baby as they feel precisely what you feel, so each time you become relaxed and calm, your baby will enjoy similar sensations in your womb. Endorphins are your body’s natural relaxant and are released when the body is in a calm state. They have been noticed in the placenta and umbilical cord and so are likely to help the baby feel more comfortable. According to research, babies born through natural childbirth, are more active and show more interest in breastfeeding behaviours such as sucking and massaging the mother’s breasts.
To participate effectively in the live online classes you will ideally need a minimum upload speed of 2Mbps. You can run a test on your computer to check your upload speed with this toolhttp://www.speedtest.net.
